The Elamites - a short presentation of the Ancient Elam
Find below a great presentation of one of my favourite civilisations:
ELAMITES (2700 BC*-539 AD)
Their capital, Susa, was one of the oldest cities in the world (4200 BC) and lasted for 5200 years.
(interesting : name “Susa” became “Huz” in Old Persian, and later “Khuz” - hence the name of the present Iranian province: Khuzestan)
Their language was unrelated with any other and may have survived up to the 8th century, as the famous Muslim historian Al-Jahiz of Basra (776-869) found it spoken in Khuzestan.
The success of the formidable Achaemenid (Persian) Empire (6th century BC) is rooted in Elamites’ knowledge, language, culture and administration.
